It is the mission of the Menands Police Department to interact with all citizens with dignity, honor, and respect; to preserve life; to protect and maintain human and constitutional rights; to protect property; and to promote individual responsibility and community commitment to high quality standards of living.

About Menands Police Department

The Menands Police Department consists of Police Chief Ryan St Gelais, nine full-time, and five part-time patrol officers assigned to patrol the Village of Menands. The patrol officers work any one of three shifts.

Patrols’ duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Proactive police patrol and crime prevention
  • Enforcement of the New York State Penal Law
  • Traffic enforcement
  • Crash investigation
  • Reporting and preliminary investigation of criminal complaints
  • Response to non-criminal complaints (disputes, assisting motorists, etc.)
  • Response to Fire and EMS calls
  • Response to calls for service

In addition, all officers are Certified First Responders, CPR Trained, and AED Certified.

These officers also actively participate in many highway safety programs including Buckle Up New York and Stop DWI. Both programs focus on reducing injuries and eliminating fatalities on our roadways through aggressive enforcement activities.

How do I get a copy of a report?

Incident Reports: If you need a copy of an accident report you may come to the front desk of the police department Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm to request one. You may check on the availability of an incident report by calling the Police at (518) 463-1681.

How do I get a Home Property Check while away on vacation?

During our routine patrols, homes of residents who are on vacation are checked on each shift. If you are going away contact the Menands Police Dispatcher and be prepared to answer the following questions:

  • What is the address and home phone number?
  • What are the dates you will be away?
  • Is the home alarmed?
  • Do you have lights on timers?
  • Are any vehicles in the driveway?
  • Are any contractors working on your property?
  • Who should the police call if there is problem?
  • What is your cell phone number
