Mayor’s Message – December 2014

  February 13, 2015

We continue to keep DPW Foreman Tim Boyd and his family in our thoughts and prayers as he recuperates. Cards can be mailed to the Village Office at 250 Broadway and we will forward them on to Tim.

As part of our ongoing efforts for Emergency Preparedness, an evacuation drill was conducted for the residents living on the west side of the railroad tracks between Menands and Upland Roads. Thank you to all who participated and to Chief O’Brien and Chief Franklin for coordinating this effort, as well as members of their departments and neighboring departments who assisted. Thank you also to our DPW and Trustee Nicoll for their help.

We are pleased to announce that Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park opened for business on November 26th. They are located off of Broadway at 50 Simmons Lane. Check out their website for details.

When heading to Zky Zone, take a look at the renovations Simmons Machine Tool Corp. has done to the exterior of their buildings. With new paint and signs the buildings look great. Other businesses upgrading their facilities include Innovative Performance Auto at 245 Bway who completed exterior renovations recently. Renovations have also begun at Peak Performance Chiropractor office at 319 Broadway, as well as the interior fit-up at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades at 191 Broadway. We are grateful to all of our businesses for their commitment and dedication to Menands.

Broadway Auto is going solar with the installation of roof-mounted photovoltaic arrays to conserve the use and cost of energy for their building.

Menands has always been a community that does not hesitate to help others as evidenced by yet another huge success of the annual food drive sponsored by Clark Moving and Storage and Menands Cares. Food and cash donations went to local food pantries and pet supplies to the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society. Thank you to Paul DeDominicis for once again organizing this event and to the volunteers and residents for your continued support of this endeavor.

Also congratulations on the great turn out for the kick off celebration of the newly created initiative, Pay It Forward – Together, to support seniors, children and teenagers, and families and individuals in crisis in the Menands and Watervliet communities. If you would like to help out or know of someone in need, send an email to email hidden; JavaScript is required.

On behalf of the Village Board, I wish you a wonderful holiday season and a healthy and happy new year.
Until next time,
Mayor Meg
