Mayor’s Message 12/7/12

  December 5, 2012

With the holiday season upon us I am grateful for the community that I live in. Menands is such a generous Village and the extent of that generosity continues to amaze me. With many fund raisers throughout the year, November was another month filled with events to help those in need. Once again the support was overwhelming. The 5th annual food drive, sponsored by Menands Cares and Clark Moving and Storage, netted over 50 boxes of supplies to fill the shelves of local food pantries. The Menands Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary hosted a breakfast to raise money and collect pet supplies for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Military Appreciation Parade/Picnic, sponsored by Menands Cares, and supported by Village organizations, including Fire Dept., Police Dept., PBA, Ladies Auxiliary, Youth Committee, VFW, Farmers Market, PTA, Library, Rotary, Village Historian, Boy and Girl Scouts, residents, several businesses and others, led to donations of $500 to Wounded Warriors, USO and Blue Star Mothers, each of whom support the men and women of our armed forces. The dedication of those who help organize these events is heartwarming and the generosity of the residents is part of what makes Menands a wonderful community. I am proud to serve as Mayor of this great Village and am thankful for all who volunteer so generously of their time to help those less fortunate.
We continue to move forward with Economic Development and other improvements throughout the Village. I will give an update in my next Mayor’s Message.
I wish you all a safe and joyous Holiday Season. As winter approaches I encourage you to sign up for the First Call Notification System, which can be found on our Village website, to stay up to date on emergency notifications during inclement weather.
Until next time,
Mayor Meg
