It is with profound sadness that the Village of Menands mourns the tragic passing of seven-year-old Harbe Nagi. On behalf of the Village Board, our police and fire departments, and all Village employees, I extend our deepest condolences to Harbe’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time.

Over those several days, our community came together with extraordinary compassion and determination in the hope of bringing Harbe home safely. While our hearts are broken, the kindness, generosity, and unwavering support shown throughout this tragedy reflect the very best of our Village.

We are deeply grateful to the Menands Police Department, Menands Fire Department & Auxiliary, New York State Police, New York State Forest Rangers, the Albany FBI Office, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, Colonie Fire Command, neighboring police and fire agencies, search teams, volunteers, and the countless residents who gave their time, resources, and support throughout the search. The professionalism, dedication, and compassion demonstrated by everyone involved will not be forgotten.

Our hearts remain with Harbe’s family, both here and abroad, as they grieve this devastating loss. We ask everyone to continue keeping them in their thoughts and to respect their privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

This tragedy has touched not only Harbe’s family, but also the first responders, volunteers, neighbors, and community members who searched tirelessly in the hope of bringing him home safely. Their commitment came from a place of genuine care, and this loss weighs heavily on many. Please continue to extend them the same kindness, respect, and appreciation they demonstrated throughout those difficult days.

In moments like these, we are reminded that Menands is more than a village—it is a community that stands together in times of heartbreak. As Mayor, I could not be prouder of the compassion, professionalism, and teamwork displayed throughout our community. I only wish the outcome had been different.
