Menands, NY — April 2 — The Village of Menands has officially adopted a reduction in the speed limit on all Village-owned public streets from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour. This change applies to all Village streets, except Wards Lane, NYS RT32 Broadway, NYS 787, and NYS RT377 Van Rensselaer Blvd, NYS RT378 Menand Rd, which will remain at its current posted speed.

The new speed limit will become effective immediately upon the installation of updated signage throughout the Village, expected by May 1, 2026.
This action reflects the Village’s ongoing commitment to improving roadway safety, enhancing the quality of life for residents, and aligning with best practices in traffic-calming and pedestrian safety. Lower speed limits, even by 5 MPH, have been shown to significantly reduce the severity of accidents and improve overall safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.

Village officials emphasize that this change is part of a broader effort to promote safer, more livable neighborhoods while maintaining efficient traffic flow.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to remain attentive to new signage and to comply with the updated speed limits once they are posted. The Menands Police Department will begin enforcing the new limits IMMEDIATELY upon installation of the signs.
