Fireworks Reminder

  June 22, 2020

From the Mayor, Menands Police Department and Village Board of Trustees: Mayor Grenier and Chief Lacosse remind Village residents of the dangers and consequences of using fireworks in the Village of Menands. In an effort to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods during the summer months, we ask for everyone’s cooperation. MPD has received multiple complaints from local families & residents regarding late-night fireworks in their neighborhood. By leaving fireworks displays to professionals we can reduce the risk of injury and harm from improper use and show both our support and respect for our neighbors. Fireworks can also cause anxiety and distress for members of families who are military veterans who normally prepare in advance of community events which include loud, percussive fireworks displays. Fireworks are also EXTREMELY stressful on our pet friends. For public safety we discourage our residents from setting off fireworks in accordance with state law and local law. All types of consumer fireworks, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, mortars, roman candles, and spinners remain illegal across New York State. While some sparklers and non-projectile fireworks are now legal, they are still dangerous. Sparklers can burn at over 1000 degrees. Residents can report issues, violations, or any concerns to the Menands Police Department at (518) 463-1681 or In an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
